The origin of the 'Frittella Festival' is rooted in the past. In the Renaissance Era, in fact, families living around the castle used to prepare the traditional fried rice cake, which is named 'frittella', in the day of celebration of the Saint 'San Giuseppe' on the 19th of March.
At the end of the sixties, farmers organized the first festival in the square of the town; they built a huge pot 2 metres wide containing up to 250 kilograms of oil in order to fry a lot of rice cakes.
Still today, people living in Montefioralle use the big pot and offer the fried rice cakes to visitors in the week-end near to the celebration day of St, Joseph.
